| The Mexico City Velodrome was originally built for the 1968 Olympics.
The velodrome occupies an area of approximately 5.2 hectors and is orientated in
the north-south direction along it's longitudinal axis. The original track had a
width of 7.5 meters, a length of 333.33 meters with a minimum inclination of 7 degrees in
the straight away and a maximum inclination of 38 degrees in the curves. The
stands around the track holds 6,536 people. In 1998 the track was rebuilt with a new
concrete floor. The track is currently open for practice rides Tuesday through
Friday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The cost is a $20 initiation fee and $7 per month
there after.
Many world records were set on this track, a few are listed below. The most
famous being Eddy Merckx's one hour record. The information listed below was
supplied to us by personnel at the track.
